I thought it was time to mention… we gave birth to a non-profit this spring!
How have I not mentioned this before? Oddly- if I count back I could even say there was a 9 month gestation period from when I seriously began talking to people about joining me for a founding board, to actually getting ourselves registered and legit. We happily have our first project now up and running, in partnership with West Point Grey Community Centre with financial support through Vancouver Park Board’s Neighbourhood Matching Fund Program.
eARThand gleaners society is an arts based organization that fosters ecological diversity and community. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada our intention is to: Develop environmental education by fostering hand-based skill development through the creative arts, pursuing creative ways of reducing green-waste through up-purposing of waste stream materials and invasive plants.
Sound familiar? Based on the work I have been doing for the past several years, this new role of mine as executive director of egs means we will be able to do the same kind of work- but look for larger funding pools to swim in, and diversify into other areas of environmental and social, creative projects. Very exciting times indeed. So meantime check out our new website at earthand.com, follow us on facebook Earthand Gleaners Society and we will even be tweeting about events! @eARThandgleaner. So new world- look what having a board can get you!
All of our events for the Aberthau: flax=fibre+food project are now on our website events page too, and soon I will cross reference and update my events 2013 page- promise.
