Wed. May 2nd 6.30-8.30

The Urban Weaver project will have an opening  at Britannia Gallery, featuring works and images of projects by community members weaving with invasive plants from Stanley Park. The show is up until June1st. 1661 Napier Street, off the Drive.

May 4th -6th  I will be working with Alastair Heseltine at SilverHarbour Seniors Activity Centre in North Vancouver, we will be weaving components of the new fence and sculptural works using English ivy, park board clippings including  willow clippings from grande boulevard! everyone welcome to join,  information details

May 10th Todd Devries, Greg Ferguson, jil p. weaving and myself will be talking at the BC Parks Association annual conference in Victoria  about the Urban Weaver Project

May 12th  12-5pm  the Urban Weavers ( Todd, Debra and myself)  will be at  the Stone Soup Festival  at the Family Activity Room at Brittania Community Centre.

May 19th-21st 12-4pm Find me at the Maclean Park studio  “Dancing the Scotchbroom!” what is that, you ask? well take a look at this for a clue of what we are going to try in our own back yard- or public park….  we are thinking it will go something like this..

Participants will  assist in discovering  the processing techniques required to turn  our own invasive Scotchbroom into a spin-able fibre through harvesting in Mount Pleasant to cooking, washing, and yes, dancing; the fibre should be ready for carding and spinning on Monday…. register for one step, or come all three days

Saturday- harvest at MOP garden in the morning- gathering Scotchbroom- 12-4pm at Maclean Park Studio- wrapping and cooking fibres, assistance welcome, bring weaving, knitting, or anything else along to work on while the fibres stew.

Sunday 12-4pm  calling neighbourhood dancers and musicians! washing the fibres and opening up the bundles, fibres will be spread on  the sidewalk and danced upon! Post dance – fibres will be cleaned and prepped for carding- stay tuned for  the documentation of this fun, bizarre event!

Thursday Nights: Drop in Weaving Circle 5-8pm

as a part of the Urban Weaver Project, we are hosting informal open studio nights out of the Maclean Park Fieldhouse. We will be exploring various invasive plant species as replacements for traditional weaving techniques. please check the urban weaver link to confirm  Thursday weaving nights. Note no regular weaving  nights May 3rd or 10th

June events

June 3rd Sunday, 1-4 pm is a weed and weave day at the Meansof Production Garden. Come assist in some general weeding, and then follow it up with weaving from the  gleanings!

June 23-24- the Vancouver Mini Makers Faire!! Means of Production will be representing there this year along side Environmental Youth Alliance

    please note: error in the Scout mag listing: I am on granville Island, not crab park for the next 10 days weaving! cheers, Sharon
