scotchbroom fiber processing

A lively event unfolded over the Victoria long weekend. based on a hunch- and research that found this link - we explored the fibre potential of invasive scotch broom- and a new dance was invented in the process, the broomella- yes,in due time I hope to get a video up!

after washing and leaving to dry, fibres were carded for spinning

Karen spinning fibre- I must work on my drop spindle skills!

an amazingly strong fibre- if time consuming to get… but we did have a hell of a good time and will try this again later in the season after more sun has been absorbed into the scotchbroom

Sharon Kallis

Welcome,

This site features the following pages:

artist statement

gallery of studio based work

installations with images from previous environment-based projects

process inquiry with images to some of the interesting things I discover in working with natural materials

social practice

events, listing what is coming up

softly walking garments of protection

The combination of all of these sums equals the whole of my art practice. Have a look through the pages that intrigue you, and I would love to hear from you on the comment page. Regular updates and postings will be made as time affords regarding events, projects and workshops. For more images of projects, all of my community projects are heavily documented on my  flickr site, so click on the link.

Best Regards, Sharon
